MaterDeiGirlsCC4th place — The Mater Dei Lady Knights had a successful weekend in Decatur with a fourth-place effort in the Class 1A State Tournament. Mater Dei fell just one spot away from bringing home their first-ever girls golf trophy.    The Mater Dei Lady Knights golf team almost accomplished a feat that no other MD girls team had done.
    The Lady Knights missed out by just one place in earning a State trophy when they had a remarkable tournament and season where they were fourth last weekend at the Class 1A State Tournament in Decatur.
    Mt. Carmel won the event with 624 shots followed in second by Quincy Notre Dame with 649 shots and Central with 657 shots. MD finished with 699 strokes.
    Mater Dei junior Abilene Winkeler was their top shooter in 35th place with a two-day total of 172. She had seven pars on day one with a birdie on hole 11. She tallied par on eight holes on Saturday.
    Fellow junior Finley Meyer was in 50th place with a two-day total of 175. On day one she birdied hole five and had par on holes 11 and 14. She was strong on Saturday with a par on 11 holes.
    Freshman Bryn Winkeler was in 54th place with a shot total of 177. On Friday she had par on holes six, 10 and 14. On day two she had pars on six holes.
    MD sophomore Elena Winter finished in 64th overall with a two-day total of 181. She had five pars on day one with a birdie on hole 11. On Saturday she had par on six of the 18 holes.
    Mater Dei senior Addison Ringwald was in 68th place with a two-day total of 182 shots. On day one she had a birdie on hole three and par on six other holes. The second day saw her card a par on five holes.
    Mater Dei senior Taylor Robert was in 75th place overall with a two-day total of 193 shots. She had par on four holes on Friday while hitting par on three holes on Saturday to round out the MD golfers.
