Knights    The Mater Dei Knights soccer team waited for the perfect time of the season to catch fire down the stretch.
The Knights steam-rolled through the Class 1A Greenville Regional to win their sixth regional title after allowing no goals in their two wins over Staunton and Father McGivney.
Mater Dei is now 15-5-2 on the season and they have not lost a match since a 1-0 setback to Althoff on September 20.
The Knights will play Columbia (11-7-2) on Tuesday in the Class 1A Freeburg Sectional semifinal.  The teams did not play during the regular season.
Mater Dei has two record breakers entering sectional play with sophomore Andrew Weir holding the single-season record for shutouts with 13, while senior Quin Rackers broke the single-season record for assists in a season with 19.  Alex Loepker had 17 assists back in 2015 while Bradyn Kuhl had the shutout record with 10 back in 2019.

Mater Dei 2, Father McGivney 0:  The Knights scored both their goals in the first half in their regional title win Friday at Triad.
Mater Dei didn’t waste much time as senior Leo Bozelli beat Griffins keeper Noah Garner for a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the half.
Fellow senior Hall Triplett doubled the lead with his own goal 11 minutes into the initial half for a 2-0 Mater Dei lead.
Senior Quin Rackers assisted on both goals for the Knights.
That was all the offense Andrew Weir and the Knights’ defense needed as they shutout the Griffins’ offense.
Weir and the Knights played 160 minutes this season without allowing a goal to Father McGivney in 2-0 and 1-0 wins.
Mater Dei 7, Staunton 0:  The Knights had no trouble with the Bulldogs in their postseason opener at the Class 1A Greenville Regional on Tuesday in Bond County.

MD senior Quin Rackers got the scoring started six minutes into the contest with a goal followed by another MD goal from Jan Zakovsky crossing in the left corner of the net.
Senior Landon Albers made it 3-0 with another goal 14 minutes into the first half before Hall Triplett made it 4-0 with 10 minutes left in the half as MD led 4-0 at the break.
Zakovsky, Cade Kramer and Leo Bozelli each added second-half goals to secure the victory.
